Welcome!
This is a web site that I maintain for my students.
Please allow me to tell you a little about myself.
I teach courses in charter parties, chartering and shipbroking operations, maritime law,
marine insurance, international commercial transactions, among others, at the Graduate School
of International Transportation Management, State University of New York, Maritime College.
I have also taught as an adjunct at the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point and
the Webb Institute of Naval Architecture.
I also teach courses via the internet / online and via live seminars, on behalf of and in conjunction with
the Association of Ship Brokers and Agents (A.S.B.A.) U.S.A., Inc. For example, students
from around the world attend my courses entitled "Shipbroking
and Chartered Vessel Operations" , "Maritime Law for Shipbrokers and Agents"
and "International Commercial Trade Transactions".
I also teach live shipping and shipping related seminars.
For example, ASBA offers two day seminars entitled:
"Business of Shipping Intensive I "
and
"Business of Shipping Intensive II" .
These courses were offered in New York, Stamford, Houston, New Orleans, Miami,
Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle and other places.
I also teach an annual seminar (usually 2 days in February )at the request of the
Society of Maritime Arbitrators (SMA) entitled:
"Maritime Arbitration in New York".
You can learn more about these courses from ASBA and the SMA. Of course, you can call or
email me as well. These are good educational experiences and you will find them very productive
and enjoyable.
I am admitted to practice law in the State of New York and the United States District Court
for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. I have extensive trial and arbitration
experience -particularly within the areas of charter parties, maritime law, and international trade /
commercial litigation.
Many years ago, I served onboard various American merchant ships as a deck officer.
For example, I served onboard a small bulker called the S.S. Penny. We traded mostly from
the U.S. East and Gulf Coasts to ports in North Africa. That, however, was back in the late 70's.
I also worked (years ago) for Amoco Oil in its tanker operations department.
I graduated with high honors from Pace University School of Law. I also hold a Masters Degree in
Marine Transportation from S.U.N.Y. Maritime College. I am a licensed merchant mariner.
I love teaching these subjects. I make sure that all of my students - graduate level, certificate level, live
and "on line", walk away feeling good about the materials and the experience.
Please let me know how I can help you or your company work towards
achieving educational /training goals. Thank you for visiting my site.
Kind Regards
Jeffrey A. Weiss
